Cricket Records, Statistics and Match History

District5 India keeps a running record of the numbers behind cricket: the highest scores, the longest partnerships, the milestones that get quoted every time a commentator reaches for a statistic. Each article starts from the official scorecard and works outward, so the figure you read here is the figure that was actually recorded.

Plenty of cricket statistics online are copied from one site to the next until nobody can say where the number came from. We take a different route. Records are checked against the scorecard or the governing body’s own list before they go up, ties are shown as ties rather than quietly ranked, and anything disputed is marked as disputed instead of being presented as settled fact.

Where to start

If this is your first visit, these five articles cover the records readers ask about most often:

How the records are compiled

Records move. A batsman passes a total, a format changes its playing conditions, a governing body reclassifies a match. So tables here show the span of a career rather than a single season, and where a record depends on how you count it — most runs across all formats, say, or most wickets in one tournament — the counting rule is stated before the table instead of being left for the reader to work out.
